Gunther's adoration for Luann was there long before 1991, when the characters were awkward 13 year olds trying to navigate early adolescence. This sweet storyline shows the ups and downs, kindesses and cruelty of young hearts.
In 2001, Bernice was raising a service dog puppy named Royce. Inspired, Luann decides to take her dog, Puddles, and bring some cheer to Bernice's elderly neighbor, Mrs. Horner. Instead of being a boring old lady, Mrs. Horner surprises Luann with her stories and an unexpected guest...
(p.s. why is she called Mrs. Horner if she never married? We don't know either.)
By 2008, the cast of characters in the strip have gradually grown up a bit, both in art style and in attitude. Luann and Gunther have been overlapping at the local library where Gunther is working and Luann is doing storytime for the kiddos. To make things fun, Gunther has sewn Luann some cute costumes to bring book characters to life. The costume for this storyline really measures up!
At this point, Gunther and Luann have been volunteering at the library for awhile and Gunther has made several costumes to go along with books that Luann reads to kids for storytime. This storyline from 2010, however, went outside the "covers," so to speak.
Oh, sighhhh. What does it take to mix into the perfect match? Perhaps we'll never know.
