Behind-the-scene commentary from Greg Evans:
My mom loved cats. She used to ask me, “Gregory, when are you going to put a cat in LUANN?” To make her happy, I introduced this cute little black kitty.
Back in Volume Six I mentioned that I liked to drop eye candy into the strip now and then. In the 11-29 strip, I chose to depict all the stuffed animals as cartoon characters: Snoopy, Opus, Tigger and Garfield. One more coloring whine: anyone knows that Tigger and Garfield are orange, not brown.
Ok, another coloring whine. Back when these strips were published in the early 2000’s, a few newspapers were running strips in color. Thus the colorizing. But I was used to working in black and white and never thought about how the colorist would handle my art. In the final 2 strips in this collection, I drew Brad in a Santa outfit and I made the suit black; in B&W, it would’ve looked odd left white. I should have made it a dark gray tone (like the bag). Then the colorist could have laid on red. As it is, Brad’s kind of a Tim Burton-esque Santa.
