Behind-the-scene commentary from Greg Evans:
Boy, I’m glad I have a new colorist now. Look at the3/16 strip. The coloring of the phone ruins the gag. Sheesh. It’s also annoying that Luann and Toni have identical hair coloring – Cheeto Orange.

Ok, done whining about color.

A little note about art technique. In the third strip from the end in this collection, I did a some manual crosshatching work. Sort of a random basket weave thing. I didn’t do this often back then and I never do it now. It just looks odd and distracting. But there’s an urge to fill empty white space with something. A better choice is what I did in panel one of that same strip, the shrubbery. Or panel one in the next strip, the house silhouette. At least these things provide some atmosphere and a sense of place. The crosshatching just sits there and says, “Greg had extra time today.”

The Brad/Toni story generated lots of interest. Budding love is always interesting, especially when there’s a potent conflict like Dirk. Today, now that the pursuit is over and Brad and Toni are officially together, drama and excitement are harder to come by.
