Behind-the-scene commentary from Greg Evans:
The third strip here says volumes about the state of men in modern society. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a HUGE proponent of women. I think they’re smarter, more mature, more emotionally developed – in short, simply more highly evolved – than men. I’m glad that there are few careers left that are male-only.

The world has gotten so complicated that the Domain Of Guys, which includes fixing stuff around the house, has largely vanished. Yet the Domain Of Women, which includes having children and nurturing a family, is still here.

I’ll use my dad as an example. In his day, he probably understood 98% of the world and how things worked. I don’t think he knew about nuclear fission or how to build a TV set, but he understood how nearly everything in his immediate world worked and he could fix most of it. Women weren’t expected to know these things. They were supposed to tend to the family. But men were expected to Take Care Of Things.

These days, men are still expected to be Mister Fixit. But what’s left to fix? Who can work on a modern car? Who can fix a computer or a smart phone? I remember watching my dad re-wire a toaster. Who does that any more? Everything’s circuit boards and sealed systems.

So in this third strip, Brad realizes, and Toni confirms, that women have pretty much caught up with men in the information department. Females are just as capable, informed and skilled as males are. Plus, they can do things men cannot. Men, meanwhile, have lost much of their uniqueness. Brad must be wondering, “What do men have to offer the world these days?”

On a more upbeat note, I like the second-to-last strip here. Even little kids find more fun things to play with on an iPad than in a toy store.
