Fan Fashion Show 1995
Read the entire collection of published strips HERE.
For LUANN’s 10th anniversary in 1995, Greg wanted to do something really special. He always liked the idea of involving readers in the strip so he decided on a fashion show where reader-designed clothes would be modeled by the LUANN characters. In a rare break-the-4th-wall strip, Luann invited readers to mail in (yes, envelope, stamps, etc) their submissions. In the next 2 weeks, Greg received 15,000 drawings from 300 people.
Want to know what that looked like and how it was handled? Ask us to email you our latest LUANNFan newsletter to get insider info, photos, fun updates and other goodies from Greg and Karen.
We got beautiful renderings with notes on fabrics and prices, designs from school art classes, a gown (?) by a 4 year old and a cool skateboarder from a 75 year old. We got three submissions from prisoners, a few photos of actual clothing, some cut-out doll clothes and one full set of patterns complete with sewing instructions. We also got the funny and bizarre.
The finished storyline was a lot of fun to work on! Below are some never-before-published samples of the range of artwork we received from our talented and creative fans.
