LUANN FAN: See You In the Museum!

Dear Reader,

WOW! We had a great time celebrating our 40th anniversary with all of you last month. Thank you for all the kind words and welcome to all our newest LUANN Fans!

We have been bonkers busy the past month preparing for our museum exhibit opening this June at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego. Have you ever tried to assemble a collage of memories to celebrate someone’s special birthday or life event? Yeah. It’s like that but not everyone who sees our exhibit will be familiar with LUANN. Plus, we have SOOOO much memorabilia and over 14,000 strips to choose from. We’ve shared some of our experience below and will share exhibit dates and details with you next month!

In the meantime, you have a chance to be a part of our museum exhibit! We *might* be able to include fan input–see the form below if you’d like to participate!

Lastly, enjoy this month’s featured collection from 1997: a look back at how Brad and Luann fared when left to their own efforts. Let’s hope Luann and Bernice do better in the current storyline!

Until next time,

~Karen and Greg

Two teenagers make dinner and take out the trash. What could go possibly wrong? Enjoy these strips from 1997 when Brad and Luann were a bit less capable and a lot more chaotic.

A BUNCHA NIGHTS AT THE MUSEUM

Want a chance to be a part of our “Welcome to the LUANNiverse” exhibit at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego? We are looking for fans to share a few words about how they relate to a specific strip or why they are a fan of LUANN. For example: I loved trying to make awesome costumes as a kid…so this strip from October 26, 1997 cracked me up with it’s honesty. To this day, I have this strip on my wall to remind me to have a sense of humor when my dreams don’t quite match my reality.

What does it look like to plan an exhibit? Touring the space, brainstorming themes and items that will be of interest to visitors (both die-hard LUANN fans and those who’ve never seen the strip before), creating digital layouts to space out the height (not too high!) and the font sizes (not too small!) for all of the materials, framing and picking colors, and then getting everything on the walls. We are lucky to be working with a supportive team at the Museum who help us with logistics and skills. Now if only they could help pick which strips to include!
