Behind-the-scene commentary from Greg Evans:
At long last, after a seemingly endless dance, Brad and Toni finally do some serious Cha-Cha-ing. Readers had generally been clamoring for these two to get together – although there were doubters. Some were suspicious of Toni, labeling her a man-eater not worthy of Brad’s pure, genuine devotion. Others felt Brad was still too much of a moron for a prize like Toni. What did she see in him? But most readers appreciated Toni’s transition from a guy who was a control-freak bully to the egoless honesty of Brad. And they enjoyed Brad’s transformation from schlump to hero. This is all summed up in the strips of 9-20 to 9-22 where Toni declares her love for Brad.

But now there’s mom to worry about. As Toni has warmed up, Nancy has cooled down. Just like some of the readers who don’t trust Toni, Nancy sees this gorgeous woman with her very average son and has to wonder, “What’s this girl up to?”

As I mentioned in a prior post, sex is the elephant in the room with Brad and Toni. In this collection there are plenty of innuendos. I didn’t want to flat out state that Brad and Toni were having sex. So rather than offend those who believe sex should be reserved for after marriage, I hoped I was writing it so that readers could believe whatever they wanted.

Oh, and I guess Toni referred to Shannon as her cousin so often that now Brad’s confused, too.
